The Volca Sample made by Korg is a professionally designed digital sample sequencer that allows for sequencing up to one-hundred samples. The step sequencer is carefully designed for ease of editing and for allowing the parts to be inserted or removed "on the fly." Sixteen step-keys enter notes and maintaining visual confirmation of the timing of the notes in a measure at the same time. A performance is possible to be recorded in real time. Up to ten of the sequence patterns created are possible to be stored in internal memory.

The motion sequence function is recording in any time-varying changes made to the sound with the use of the knob movements. An active step function is created for allowing for skipping steps during the sequence, and the step jump function instantly is made for playing just the key-pressed step. A swing function is adjusting the swing playback position, capable to generate the distinctive groove of dance music styles.

A frequency isolator applies changes to the sound by boosting or cutting the low/high ranges that comes along with the isolator implemented as an analog circuit. The built-in reverb effect is capable to be switched on/off for each part, and it is possible for saving up to six song patterns, each capable of combining up to sixteen sequences. Additional samples is possible to be loaded with the use of the volca sample's dedicated iOS app (the internal sounds are overwritten).
