MILAB DC-196 Multi-pattern, large Membrane Condenser. (incl. shock mount)
A remarkably small and adaptable microphone with three distinct polar patterns, minimal self-noise, and superior SPL management. The newest iteration of Milab's rectangular capsule, the 2900, serves as the foundation for the multipurpose power tool DC-196. In a relatively small package, it provides low noise, good SPL handling, configurable patterns (cardioid, omni, bidirectional), and a very smooth off-axis response. The DC-196 is actually among the tiniest large-diaphragm microphones ever made. Thanks to the special characteristics of the rectangular capsule, the DC-196 performs exceptionally well not only on transient-rich sources like acoustic instruments but also in stereo setups like X/Y and Blumlein, where large-diaphragm microphones are typically avoided, and in recording scenarios where a smooth off-axis response is essential, like string ensembles and choirs. Even the pickiest recording engineers will find their needs met by a matched set of DC-196s.
