Thermionic Culture Purple Bustard 16 Channel Summing Mixer

Introducing The Purple Bustard, a warm-sounding summing mixer inspired by the acclaimed Fat Bustard, designed to deliver exceptional sound quality and character at a lower price point while retaining the unique Attitude control. Like its predecessor, The Purple Bustard features the same input circuit and Attitude section, utilizing twin triode valves to infuse warmth and character into your mixes. However, instead of EQs and stereo spread controls, The Purple Bustard offers the "AIR" control, which enhances the very high end with a velvety sheen, reminiscent of classic all-valve equipment. With no solid-state components in the audio path, The Purple Bustard ensures a smooth and harmonious sound, free from the harshness often associated with solid-state units. The output stage, akin to The Fat Bustard, utilizes smaller double triodes to maintain optimal performance while minimizing space and heat. Crafted with precision, The Purple Bustard features NOS mil-spec valves for reliability and superior sound quality. Its robust output level, well above +20 dBv, ensures compatibility with any DAW setup. All inputs and outputs are conveniently housed on XLR connectors, with semi-floating inputs and unbalanced outputs. For those seeking balanced outputs, an optional balancing box with Sowter transformers is available at an additional cost. The front panel of The Purple Bustard boasts intuitive controls, including 8 toggle switches for channel pairing and 2 additional toggles for mono channel selection. The AIR control, a rotary pot, allows for fine-tuning of the high-frequency sheen, while the ATTITUDE switch offers six distinct settings to dial in the desired harmonic character. Output levels are controlled by a matched pair of pots, providing precise level adjustment. With a frequency response extending well above and below the audio range, The Purple Bustard offers exceptional sonic clarity and depth, especially when the Attitude control is pushed towards maximum. With improved specs such as reduced crosstalk, phase shift, and signal-to-noise ratio compared to its predecessor, The Purple Bustard delivers unparalleled performance and versatility, making it an essential tool for mixing engineers seeking rich analog sound. Plus, its illuminated eyes add a touch of visual flair as the sound intensity increases, adding a unique aesthetic to any studio setup.
