Tascam HS-P82 PORTABLE MULTI TRACK RECORDER
The Tascam HS-P82 is professionally designed for professional location recording, filmmaking, and sound design applications where you are in need of recording an array of microphones and your real-time mix, It is a multi-track field recorder that is an ideal solution. With this you can capture up to eight tracks of audio from external sources plus a stereo mix, route stereo analog audio to your camcorder and sending a multichannel digital feed at the same time, and conveniently monitor with the use of headphones. Thanks to its sturdy aluminum chassis, the HS-P82 is capable to be slid into a sound bag, placed on an audio cart, or even attached to a shoulder/neck strap.
It comes with comprehensive synchronization I/O, versatile powering methods, and remote-control capabilities, the HS-P82 is built ready to be the primary audio recorder for your next pro-level video production gig. Its eight balanced XLR inputs are capable of handling the mic-level or line-level signals (even +4 dBu from high-end wireless receivers) and come featuring an independent phantom power, pads, limiters, and low-cut filters. From the intuitive color touchscreen interface to the dual CompactFlash card recording, the HS-P82 is designed optimized for efficiency and reliable performance.
Simultaneous 10-Track Recording
With this you can record all eight inputs and your stereo mix at the same time in 44.1 or 48 kHz resolution, or forego the stereo mix to track the eight inputs at the 96 kHz sampling rate. If your work demands 192 kHz fidelity, the HS-P82 is capable to simultaneously record four tracks. 48 kHz pull-up or pull-down rates are also possible. Available file formats include mono or poly BWF (Broadcast WAV) files with iXML metadata.
Eight XLR Mic/Line Inputs with Independent Phantom Power
Eight locking XLR 3-pin inputs support mic level and +4 dBu line level, allowing you to record external microphones or balanced outputs from high-end wireless receivers. With individually switchable 48V phantom power and -25 dB input pads, the Ultra-HDDA (High-Definition Discrete Architecture) mic preamps can serve a variety of microphones while delivering a strikingly low equivalent input noise of just -125 dB.
Eight dedicated input trim knobs ensure immediate access to your input gain stages. Once an input level is set, press the trim knob to prevent it from accidental adjustments.
8-Channel Digital I/O
In addition to its eight mic preamps, the HS-P82 offers eight channels of AES/EBU digital I/O via a DB25 connector for integration of premium outboard converters. Single, double, and quad speeds are supported for compliance with sample rates up to 192 kHz, and each pair of digital input channels boasts a switchable sampling rate converter that handles 32 to 216 kHz sampling frequencies.
Balanced and Unbalanced Outputs
The HS-P82's stereo main outputs are presented on balanced XLR jacks for proper connectivity with professional camcorders and backup recorders. An internal high-power headphone amplifier drives the front-panel 1/4" headphone output, which offers a dedicated volume control next to the jack for convenient monitoring of the mix or signals in solo.
Single/Dual CompactFlash Card Recording
The HS-P82 records directly to CompactFlash media cards (available separately) up to 128GB in capacity. Equipped with two CF slots, it is capable of mirror-recording the same tracks at up to 48 kHz to both cards simultaneously for extra security. With an 8GB card, the HS-P82 can record eight tracks for over three hours at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz using the uncompressed, BWF-compliant WAV format.
Versatile Synchronization I/O
The HS-P82 allocates four BNC jacks for synchronization purposes. For positional reference, it can sync to or generate SMPTE timecode while the master digital clock can lock to incoming video reference signals, word clock, AES/EBU input streams, or the internal clock. The word clock thru/output jack is ideal for clocking other digital devices to the HS-P82.
Powered via Batteries, AC Adapter, or DC Input
The HS-P82 supports powering via NP or AA batteries, the included AC adapter, or an external DC input. Also, a V-mount adapter is available separately to allow powering via Endura batteries. Using ten AA alkaline batteries (available separately) in the supplied battery sled, you can power the HS-P82 for up to two hours of eight-track recording time at 24-bit / 48 kHz resolution. If multiple power sources are available, the connected AC adapter or DC battery will be used before any installed batteries.
Ideal for Sound Bag Configurations
Aside from the operational elements, the HS-P82 is completely made of metal. In particular, the side panel is made from thick aluminum that can withstand external shocks, resulting in high durability. The rugged chassis has front handles and no rear-panel jacks, making it ideal for use in sound bags on set. Plus, the HS-P82's 3.5" TFT color touchscreen can be tilted for maximum visibility when bag-mounted or placed on a cart.
Built-In Mixer
Enhance the sonic impact of your audio with the HS-P82's built-in mixer. Each input features adjustable panning, level, low-cut filtering, and polarity. You can enable each channel's limiter, which uses a 32:1 ratio and a 3 ms attack time to catch errant peaks. The low-cut filters—adjustable to 40, 80, or 120 Hz at 12 or 18 dB/octave—mitigate wind noise and low-frequency rumble.
Slate Mic and Tone Generator
Press and hold the front-panel Slate button for over 0.5 second to record sound input through the built-in microphone or the internal oscillator to all record-enabled tracks. This enables simple marking of take numbers or creation of sync tones. The resulting tones can be used as guides when synchronizing the files in video editing software.
Supports External Remote Control
Comprehensive, tactile remote control is possible via the RC-F82 fader unit (available separately); adjust parameters such as input trim, panning, and mix level, operate the transport, make marks, solo tracks, and much more without having to touch the HS-P82.
