The Blackmagic Design SDI Expander 8x12G is a high-performance bidirectional SMPTE ST 2110 IP converter built to bridge 12G-SDI infrastructure with modern 100GbE IP broadcast networks. Designed for television studios, live production, and professional broadcast facilities, it enables seamless integration of legacy SDI equipment into high-bandwidth IP workflows while delivering exceptional reliability, scalability, and real-time performance. Supporting up to 16 simultaneous channels of 10-bit 4:2:2 video, the converter simultaneously transforms eight independent 12G-SDI inputs into SMPTE ST 2110 IP streams while converting eight incoming IP video streams back to 12G-SDI outputs. This true bidirectional operation allows broadcasters to migrate to IP infrastructures without disrupting existing SDI workflows.

Dual 100GbE QSFP28 network interfaces provide ultra-high-speed connectivity with SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundancy, automatically maintaining uninterrupted video transmission by switching to a backup network path if required. This ensures maximum uptime for mission-critical broadcast and live production environments. Compatible with SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 4K60, the converter automatically detects incoming video standards, eliminating manual configuration and simplifying mixed-format production environments. Each SMPTE ST 2110 video stream also supports up to 16 channels of embedded audio, keeping audio and video perfectly synchronized across the network.

A bright 2.2-inch front-panel LCD provides real-time monitoring of video, audio, and system status, while intuitive control buttons and a rotary knob allow fast access to settings. A built-in speaker and headphone output provide convenient confidence monitoring without requiring additional equipment. For centralized management, the converter supports NMOS-based configuration through a dedicated RJ45 Ethernet port, while a USB-C port simplifies setup and firmware updates. Dual IEC power inputs provide redundant power for continuous operation in demanding broadcast environments. Housed in a compact 1 RU rackmount chassis, the Blackmagic Design SDI Expander 8x12G delivers the speed, flexibility, and reliability required to build scalable hybrid SDI/IP production systems.
