Lectrosonics DBSM-A1B1, DIGITAL TX W/RECORDER, TIME CODE, SINGLE AA, 470-608 MHz

The DBSM and DBSMD digital transmitters were specifically developed to meet the requirements of the film industry, providing reliable performance and convenient features for professional production environments. Both models include timecode jam synchronization, allowing them to be easily synchronized with other equipment used during production. They also support hands-free setup and adjustment through audible tones, making it possible to configure the transmitters without having to physically access the controls. A sleep mode is available to conserve battery power during setup, which is particularly useful when the transmitters are placed or hidden inside costumes. Once production begins, the transmitters can be awakened and returned to normal operation. The DBSM and DBSMD offer precise input gain adjustment in 1 dB increments across a 44 dB range. This provides detailed control over the audio input level to achieve the desired recording performance. They also feature an adjustable low-frequency audio roll-off with selectable 3 dB down points at 20, 35, 50, 70, 100, 120, and 150 Hz. This feature helps control subsonic frequencies and other very low-frequency audio content that may cause unwanted noise or affect the quality of the recorded signal.

The transmitters provide three selectable RF output power levels: 10, 25, and 50 mW. For situations where multiple transmitters need to operate within a limited frequency range, the DBSM and DBSMD include a special high-density mode (HDM). This mode operates at 2 mW and allows for very close channel spacing while reducing the need for extensive frequency coordination. The input section incorporates Lectrosonics’ servo-bias input circuitry and uses a standard TA5M connector. This versatile input can accommodate a range of audio sources, including electret lavalier microphones, dynamic microphones, and line-level signals. To protect the audio circuitry from excessive input levels, a DSP-controlled analog audio limiter is positioned before the first microphone preamp. The limiter provides more than 30 dB of overload protection and uses a dual-release design. This allows it to handle both short, sudden transients and longer-duration peaks while maintaining low distortion and preserving natural-sounding audio.

For convenient operation, the transmitters are equipped with a water-resistant control panel featuring an OLED display, membrane switches, and multi-color LEDs. These controls allow users to quickly and accurately adjust the input gain, select operating frequencies, and choose the appropriate compatibility mode. The battery compartment is designed to accept standard AA batteries, with lithium batteries recommended for reliable and extended operation. The DBSM and DBSMD are also compatible with the same accessories used with the SMWB and SMDWB transmitters. These accessories include belt clips, pouches, and battery eliminators, allowing users to easily integrate the DBSM and DBSMD into existing equipment and production setups.
