Presenters on-air can control the audio levels delivered to their radios or connected IEM systems with the presenter mixer system, while sound control room operators can control the levels remotely. The system is made up of three different types of units that are all connected to a common Ravenna Audio over IP (AoIP) network. Additional audio sources are obtained from input portals or mixers that are based on Ravenna. Websites and/or programs from third parties can be used to offer setup and control. Mono audio is used throughout the system.

In addition to employing AES67 audio streams, the AVN-PX8X4C Mix Engine takes in 24 analog mono channels via 3 x DB25 connectors and outputs 16 analog mono channels via 2 x DB25 connectors. Eight virtual mixers, each able to combine any four sources (analog or AoIP) into a single mixed output that can be accessed locally at an output and through an AoIP stream (to the Presenter Unit and other locations), can be created and controlled by each mixer unit. By default, the analog audio line-up level will be +18dBU or 0dBFS.

Configuration settings, input/output routing, and assigning Presenter and Technician Remote Units to certain Mix Engines and Virtual Mixers are all done via an integrated website. Each Virtual Mixer may have up to 4 MPPRs assigned to it, first-come, first-served. It is also feasible for both MPTRs to choose the same virtual machine (VM), allowing a maximum of six devices to regulate a VM's mix levels. The Mix Engine will allow a maximum of 32 audio over IP input streams (each stream can be up to 8 channels). There are 8 virtual mixer outputs available. Each Virtual Mixer has 4 sources and 1 mixed output. There are also 2 more monitor outputs that play out the audio of the VM selection made on each of the 2 connected Technician Remote Units. The Mix Engine has dual universal AC power supplies which are hot-swappable in the event of failure and have a green LED to indicate within-spec operation. The front panel has LED indications and GPOs to warn of power supply failure. There are also front panel LEDs for network and sync/clock failure.
