Sonifex AVN-DIO20 Dante® to MADI & AES3 Converter

The AVN-DIO20 is a bridge device that connects AES3 and MADI to Dante, enabling bidirectional AoIP connections for MADI and eight AES3 stereo channels. An easy way to quickly and conveniently connect vintage MADI equipment to the Dante AoIP audio network is with this straightforward plug-and-play audio interface.

Using the Dante Controller, the AVN-DIO20 maps all 64 channels on the Dante network after sampling and converting a MADI stream. It simultaneously receives the 64 channels that are mapped to the device on the Dante Controller, transforms them to a configurable sampling rate, and sends the data out via the MADI output. The device replaces sixteen of the chosen MADI input channels with eight stereo AES3 inputs that are connected to the Dante network. The unit also sends 8 stereo AES3 outputs which can be sourced from the Dante channels, in blocks of 16.

The coaxial BNC input or a suitable SFP module can both provide MADI signals to the unit. The input can be chosen via the integrated web GUI, or if an SFP module is placed into the device, it will use one by default. When the SFP is in operation, the coaxial BNC output is turned off. Additionally, there is an automatic failover option that, when enabled, enables seamless audio redundancy by automatically switching to the BNC input if the SFP signal is lost.

Either the recovered clock from the MADI input or the Dante network, in which case the output SRC is circumvented, can be used to clock the MADI output audio. It’s powered using Power over Ethernet (PoE), using Neutrik EtherCON® connectors, with primary and secondary ports for power and data redundancy. The AVN-DIO20 uses the latest Audinate Dante™ chipsets so is AES67 and Dante Domain Manager™ compliant.

There are front panel LEDs to indicate network clock status, AoIP Primary and AoIP Secondary link status, PoE Primary power, and PoE Secondary power active. In addition there are 8 AES3 input lock status LEDs and an active MADI input indication. A web interface is available for network and device settings, status information, and firmware updates. Up to 3 of the AVN-DIO20 units can be rackmount in the 1U AVN-DIORK.
