A stereo converter that can handle both digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversion, the CEDAR ADA is made to operate with other CEDAR products, such as DNS- and Duo-series hardware modules. It can convert both balanced and unbalanced analog audio sources into digital recordings with sample rates and resolutions of 96 kHz / 24-bit.

The ADA can accept and output analog audio at both professional and consumer levels thanks to its XLR and RCA connectors. While output levels can be changed over a range of 6 dB, input levels can be changed over an 18 dB range. Potentiometers and DIP switches on the back panel allow you to change these levels. Additionally, you can choose between 16-, 20-, and 24-bit wordlengths. The use of a psychoacoustic filter keeps the signal high quality even at bit counts lower than 24.

The device features S/PDIF via RCA and AES/EBU connectors via XLR terminations on the digital side. You can move between the two distinct kinds of digital connections with the help of digital select buttons. A built-in clock on the ADA allows it to sync with other digital devices. It can be used in Master, Slave, Auto, and Auto-Lock sync modes. Anytime you adjust the gain parameters, the gadget provides a test mode for calibrating the unit. The ADA takes up just 1 RU of space in a studio rack.

Synchronization Modes

Master Sync Mode: A user-selectable onboard master clock generates the clock signals internally at a rate of 32, 44.1, 48, 64, 88.2, or 96 kHz.

Slave Sync Mode: The ADA synchronizes to any digital signal that is present at the specified digital input. There is no output produced if there is no such signal.

Auto Sync Mode: The ADA synchronizes to any digital signal that is present at the designated digital input. The ADA employs its internal master clock at the user-selected sample rate in the absence of such a signal.

The Auto-Lock Sync Mode functions similarly to the Auto Sync Mode, with the exception that in the absence of a digital signal, the ADA employs its internal master clock, which is set to the most recent synchronized sample rate.
